"We all are amazing, each in our own way!"

As many of you know, I've been working with individuals impacted by Autism for over 15 years. With my experiences in day centers, camps, residential facilities, respite and school, I've seen the awareness, acceptance and love for people with Autism grow in different ways. Some of my favorite experiences of love and acceptance have been right here at Sexton Mountain. We have a loving, inclusive community that is growing stronger every day.

The teachers and staff at Sexton work hard to cultivate our environment, and I am so excited to see how much acceptance we will spread to our Beaverton community by helping grow strong leaders. Building love an acceptance of all people at such an early age is so important!

I am thrilled to learn about sesame street's initiative to help spread this love and acceptance by introducing their first character with Autism, Julia! In the videos, Elmo, Abby and friends learn about the special ways that we are all different and the same. The storybook was written by a mother of an individual with Autism, and shares some great strategies for young kids to interact with each other!
